Every traditional public school in Fort Myers is run by The School District of Lee County, the countywide district based at 2855 Colonial Blvd., not by the city. Zones do not follow city limits, and Lee County does not assign one school per address: under its 2026-27 Student Enrollment Plan (PDF), families rank the schools in the zone their address falls in at each level, and the district guarantees a seat, with bus service, at a school with room in that zone.

Of the 65,866 current address points the City of Fort Myers lists inside its limits, these shares fall in each zone on the district’s 2026-27 zone layer:
- High school: about 67% in the South 1 subzone, 23% in East 2 and 10% in East 1. Dunbar High is a choice in all three.
- Middle school: about 86% in zone EE (Fort Myers Middle and Paul Laurence Dunbar Middle), 7% in zone MM and 7% in zone JJ.
- Elementary: about 46% in zone J, 42% in zone H, 9% in zone D and 2% in zone O.
The School Board approved the 2026-27 plan on Dec. 1, 2025. It limits high school busing to each school’s “exclusive transportation zone” but does not limit which school a student may choose, the district’s zones page says.
The list below has every district school inside the city limits that takes students through the zones, the six district high schools outside the city whose subzones cover city addresses, and the public charter schools inside the city. Enrollment is the federal count for 2024-25. The grade is Florida’s 2026 school grade with the share of possible points, from the state’s grades file; each grade links to the school’s state report card. Tables are in alphabetical order.
