The City of Fort Myers lists more than 30 parks, from a 10-acre riverfront park downtown to small neighborhood playgrounds and a greenway bike trail. Many sit on the Caloosahatchee River or its creeks. The big county parks, such as Lakes Park, are run by Lee County.

On the river

  • Centennial Park, 2000 W. First St. A 10-acre park on the river in the historic downtown, with boat docks, a fishing pier, a launching ramp, covered pavilions, a playground and volleyball. Pavilions can be reserved for up to four hours, at least five working days and up to one year ahead.
  • Tarpon Street Pier, 715 Tarpon St. A lighted fishing pier on the Caloosahatchee.
  • Riverside Park, 3061 E. Riverside Drive, with the riverfront Riverside Community Center.
  • Shady Oaks Park, 3300 Marion St. Two softball fields, a playground, a shaded picnic area and a kayak launch with a boardwalk and gazebo.
  • Snell Park, 2920 Valencia Way, a quiet riverfront park.

Trails and nature

  • North Colonial Yarbrough Linear Park, West Metro Parkway and Crystal Drive. A bike trail through a natural setting, part of the Lee County Greenway, from Metro Parkway to Ortiz Avenue.
  • Trailhead Park, 3980 Veronica S. Shoemaker Blvd. A playground, pavilions and walking paths, with access to the linear park.
  • Billy Creek Preserve and Filter Marsh, 4320 Woodside Ave. A 56-acre marsh built to clean water flowing to the river, with bike and walking trails, bird watching, a picnic area and on-leash dog walking.
  • Vivas Palm Park, 2414 Edwards Drive, and Bennett-Hart Park, 2330 Martin Luther King Blvd. Shady paths with engraved markers naming each palm tree.

Sports, pools and the ice rink

  • Lions Park, 2550 Cleveland Ave. A playground, pavilions, tennis, baseball and basketball courts and a soccer field.
  • Roberto Clemente Park, 3265 Dr. Martin Luther King Blvd. Pavilions, a playground, tennis and basketball courts, and the Black History Museum on site.
  • Billy Bowlegs Park, 951 Marsh Ave. A playground, basketball courts and baseball and soccer fields. The city says Deion Sanders first played baseball here.
  • Midtown Beach Sports Complex, 2277 Grand Ave., with three courts.
  • Fort Myers Aquatic Center, 1750 Matthew Drive, at the Sam Fleishman Regional Sports Complex. A 10-lane Junior Olympic pool heated and chilled all year, a zero-entry kiddie pool and a 30-foot slide tower. The city also runs the Golfview Pool and the pool at the STARS Complex.
  • Skatium, 2250 Broadway, 239-321-7509. An ice rink, gym and fitness center under one roof.
  • Dr. Ann Murphy-Knight STARS Complex, 2980 Edison Ave., 239-321-7540. Youth programs, a pool, an indoor basketball court and sports fields.

Neighborhood playgrounds

The city lists playgrounds at Bowling Green Park (1671 Lowell Court), Coronado Park (1900 Coronado Road), Dunbar Park (3101 Indian St.), Dupree/Aztec Park (2479 Aztec Drive), Freemont Park (1000 Freemont St.), Golf View Park (1803 Golf View Ave.), Harlem Lakes Park (2102 Hale Court), Manuel’s Branch Neighborhood Park (2777 Cortez Blvd.), McCutcheon Park (2701 Orange St.), Winkler Park (3819 Broadway) and Yawkey Park (2291 Jackson St.). Jefferson Park, 1610 Jefferson Ave., has a gazebo and a dog walkway with a bone-shaped water fountain. Some smaller pavilions are first come, first served.

Lakes Park (Lee County)

Lakes Park, 7330 Gladiolus Drive in south Fort Myers, is a Lee County regional park open 7 a.m. to dusk. It has a splash pad (9 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily in regular hours; 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. in cold weather), a train ride, a boardwalk, sand volleyball, a walking path, grills and free Wi-Fi.
