Most people get around Fort Myers by car, on a grid of state roads that cross the city and meet I-75 on its east side. LeeTran runs the county’s buses, Southwest Florida International Airport is run by the Lee County Port Authority, and downtown parking is managed by the city.

Main roads
The Florida Department of Transportation’s District One runs the state roads through the city:
- U.S. 41 (Cleveland Avenue), the main north-south road, crossing the Caloosahatchee on the U.S. 41 Caloosahatchee Bridge to North Fort Myers.
- U.S. 41 Business, which crosses the river on the Edison Bridge into downtown.
- SR 80 (Palm Beach Boulevard), east along the river.
- SR 82 (Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard), east toward I-75 and Lehigh Acres.
- SR 867 (McGregor Boulevard), the royal palm-lined road southwest past the Edison and Ford Winter Estates.
- I-75, east of the city. FDOT is rebuilding the Daniels Parkway interchange (Exit 131) into a diverging diamond, with completion expected in summer 2028.

The airport
Southwest Florida International Airport (RSW), run by the Lee County Port Authority, is at 11000 Terminal Access Road, Fort Myers; 239-590-4800; flylcpa.com. LeeTran’s Route 50 serves the airport. For private aircraft, Page Field, 501 Danley Drive, is the general aviation airport in Fort Myers; 239-936-1443.
Biking and trails
- Bikes ride free on LeeTran. Every bus has a front rack for two or three bikes; if it is full, wait for the next bus. Gas-powered bikes are not allowed, and children 10 and younger need an adult to load a bike, LeeTran’s bicycles page says.
- The city’s North Colonial Yarbrough Linear Park is a bike trail on the Lee County Greenway from Metro Parkway to Ortiz Avenue, reached from Trailhead Park; more in our parks and trails guide.
- The city’s Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Board meets at City Hall; its next meeting is 3 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 15, according to the city’s public notice.
Downtown parking
From the city’s Parking page:
- On-street parking downtown is free all weekend and free after 5 p.m. on weekdays.
- Garages: through Oct. 31, 2026, the first two hours are free in the city’s three downtown parking garages. The two busiest are the City of Palms Garage and the Main Street Garage; the city sells a 10-trip pass for them through the HONK parking app.
- Centennial Park lot: two hours free when you start a session in zone 5619999; longer stays pay the posted rate. Not available during special events.
- Disabled parking: under state law, vehicles with a disabled placard or plate get four hours free at any on-street metered space. Garages and lots still charge, with exceptions for disabled veteran plates, toll-exemption permits and specially equipped vehicles.
