Voting by mail

  • Old requests have expired. The Supervisor of Elections says that under Florida law all earlier vote-by-mail requests have lapsed, so you must make a new request for the 2026 cycle.
  • Ask by 5 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 22. You need your Florida driver’s license or ID number, or the last four digits of your Social Security number. If your license number changed recently, update it on your voter record first.
  • Your voted ballot must be received by 7 p.m. on Election Day. A postmark does not count.
  • Drop it at a ballot drop-off location or an elections office, and track it on the state’s vote-by-mail lookup.

What to bring

A current, valid photo ID with your signature, says the Division of Elections’ Election Day page. Any one of these works:

  • Florida driver’s license or Florida ID card
  • U.S. passport
  • Debit or credit card
  • Military, student, retirement center or neighborhood association ID
  • Public assistance ID or Veteran Health ID card
  • Concealed weapon or firearm license
  • A federal, state, county or city government employee ID

If the photo ID has no signature, you will be asked for a second ID with one. Without proper ID you can still cast a provisional ballot, which counts if your signature matches your registration record.

Your ballot

Fort Myers voters also elect city officials on Nov. 3: the mayor and the council members for Wards 1, 3 and 5, all to four-year terms, according to the City Clerk’s page. The city primary was Aug. 18.
