President Donald Trump will speak at a midterm rally in Fort Myers on Friday, Oct. 23. His remarks are scheduled to begin at 2 p.m., and doors open at 10:30 a.m.
The rally is listed on the Republican National Committee’s event page for the Fort Myers rally. The page gives the location only as “To Be Announced, Fort Myers, FL.” No venue had been named as of Friday afternoon.
The event is paid for by Trump 47 Committee, Inc., a joint fundraising committee. The event page says its members include the Republican National Committee, the Never Surrender leadership PAC, Save America and the federal accounts of state Republican parties, Florida’s among them.
When and how to get in
The event page lists this schedule:
- 10:30 a.m.: doors open
- 2 p.m.: the president’s remarks begin
Admission is by RSVP on the same page. These are the terms it sets:
- a maximum of four tickets per signup
- name, email, cellphone number, ZIP code and state are required
- you are not registered until you confirm your tickets by replying to a text message
- signing up gives consent to calls and recurring text messages from the committees in Trump 47 Committee, and the page says donations may be solicited
The page also carries a separate link for media requests.
It falls in the first week of early voting
The rally comes four days after early voting opens in Lee County. The Lee County Supervisor of Elections says early voting runs Monday, Oct. 19, through Saturday, Oct. 31, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily. Any Lee County voter may use any of the county’s 12 early voting sites. Two are in the city: the Dr. Carrie D. Robinson Center and the Fort Myers Regional Library.
The general election page sets out the other deadlines:
- 5 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 22: last chance to request a mail ballot
- Tuesday, Oct. 20: the office’s suggested last day to mail a ballot back
- 7 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 3: polls close, and mail ballots must be in hand by then
The Nov. 3 ballot in Lee County includes federal, state and county offices, the state constitutional amendments and Fort Myers City Council seats.
What it means for you
- If you want to attend, RSVP through the RNC event page and confirm by text. Expect campaign texts and calls to that number afterward.
- If you live or drive near the venue, there is nothing yet to plan around. A presidential visit usually brings road closures and security zones. No agency has announced any. We will add them here, with the detour, as soon as the venue and the closures are published.
- If you plan to vote early, the dates, sites and wait times are on our Lee County voting guide.
This story is updated as the venue, the security plan and any road closures are announced. Fort Myers Daily covers campaign events of every party on the same terms and endorses no candidate.
