Lee County lists two electric utilities: Florida Power & Light (FPL) and Lee County Electric Cooperative (LCEC). LCEC says it serves Cape Coral, North Fort Myers, Sanibel, Captiva, Pine Island, Everglades City, Immokalee, Marco Island, Ave Maria and parts of Lehigh Acres; the city of Fort Myers is not on its list, so most addresses in the city are FPL customers. Your power bill shows which utility you have.

Who to call

FPL customers

  • Report an outage at 1-800-468-8243, which FPL answers any time, or through FPL.com. Check the status of a reported outage online.
  • See the map. FPL’s outage map is the Power Tracker.
  • Billing and service questions: 1-888-988-8249, Monday to Friday 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Saturday 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., as listed on FPL’s contact page.

LCEC customers

From LCEC’s outage page:

  • The quickest way to report is SmartHub, on the web or the mobile app. Keep your phone number up to date there so LCEC can find your outage.
  • Registered SmartHub users can text OUT to 844-948-2817 to report, and STATUS to the same number for an update.
  • Or call 239-656-2300 or 800-599-2356.
  • Check your breakers before you call.
  • In severe weather or a widespread outage, LCEC says there is no need to report: it already knows, and it posts an estimated time of restoration based on past data and the weather.

Streetlights

The city runs its own streetlight system. Its Streetlights Division asks residents to report outages, damaged poles and other lighting problems through FixMyFort, the city’s Report A Concern system. Public Works answers at 239-321-8100 at any hour.

In a storm

  • Lee County’s guidance on generators, alerts and shelters is in our hurricane prep guide: run a generator outdoors only, never in a home or garage, and never plug it into a wall outlet or breaker panel.
  • Sign up for AlertLee at AlertLee.com for county emergency alerts.
  • If you depend on electric medical equipment, register for Lee County’s Special Medical Needs Program before the season, at 239-533-0640.

Water during an outage

City water and sewer is a separate city service, run by Fort Myers Utilities at 239-321-8100, 24 hours. When the city issues a boil-water notice, its boil water notices page explains what to do.

What this means for you
